‘I am at a decision-making curve in my music
career where I have to make the right professional and creative decisions. At this point, I realised the need to put in solid structures in place to move to the next level of my career. I think I have found that professional and creative backbone in Mavin Records’. These were the words of Iyanya
as he officially moved on from his co-owned MMMG to Don Jazzy‘s Mavin Records.
The last 10 months has witnessed a nosedive in Iyanya’s career owing to his exit plan from his former partner Ubi Franklin. When he completed his exit from MMMG, Iyanya signed a management deal with Temple Productions. His decision to join Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records makes it the first time a Nigerian pop artiste will leave his own established label to sign up with a competing company. And it all happened with one man in middle of the deal.
Idris Olorunnimbe, the CEO of Temple Management Company has had Iyanya in his sight for a while. Upon leaving MMMG, Idris successfully got Iyanya to sign a management deal with his new company. It didn’t stop there.
Idris, who is known to many in the industry as one of the godfathers of Mavin Records and a very good friend of Don Jazzy, has been the one pulling the strings and talking to both sides for months before getting the deal signed a few days ago. In the words of Don Jazzy, ‘From the first time I stepped into the studio with him, there was an instant chemistry and energy. He is an amazing talent and he has great musical versatility. This is an exciting time for us and our fans have a lot of great music to look forward to’.
In January 2015, Don Jazzy and Iyanya teamed up on the song ‘Gift’ that was quite a successful single on the African continent. As it stands now, Iyanya has a record deal with Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records and a management deal with Idris Olorunnimbe’s The Temple Management Company (TMC).
